11. The figures tell the story

In 2007 there were 144,604 farm businesses in Veneto covering a farmed area of 820,201.3 hectares; 82% of these are run with family labour alone.
Veneto has 18,000 hectares given over to organic farming: there are 1,548 operators comprising producers, processors and importers.
Veneto boasts 26 DOP or IGP products (Italy has 177), 29 DOC wines (Italy has 357) and 10 IGT wines (Italy has 120), as well as 19 wine and typical-product roads that attract food- and wine-lovers from all over the world.
Veneto is Italy's leading wine exporter; in 2007 it exported 979 million euro worth of wine, 25% of the national export total.
In Veneto in 2008 over 160,000 inspections were carried out on more than 130,000 food-sector operators.
More than 70,000 food samples were taken from these operators: less than 1% were found to be in breach of regulations.
