Veneto has 414,894 hectares of woodlands, which is 22% of the regional surface area.
Half of its woodlands are comprised by beeches, red firs, hop-hornbeams and oaks.
More than half of its woodlands belongs to the province of Belluno, followed by 24% in the province of Vicenza.
Rovigo has the least with 995 hectares.
A total of 62% of Veneto's woodlands is governed by regional forestry planning.
Over the last 10 years, there have been 628 fires, which have caused the loss of 3,725 hectares of woodlands.
Since 2004, the surface area damaged by fire has dropped by more than 90%.
