Chapter 8 - Is the mobility of people in veneto is changing?

Mobility is a central issue for sustainability, so much so that the study group on diseases related to environmental pollution at the Associazione Culturale Pediatri in Milan states: "...How we travel can have different consequences on the environment and human health. In many cases...we have a choice. Let's take a five kilometre daily journey, which corresponds to the average daily journey of 50% of Italians. Several options may be available: cycling, driving alone with your own diesel SUV, sharing the car with colleagues or taking public transport.
Some of the options will always be greener than others, and will have benefits for the environment and health...". In the Veneto region, in recent years, there has been a slow and gradual change in daily travel: the use of motorised vehicles has decreased and the use of bicycles and public transport has increased.
Our region, which has a high rate of motorisation and has two of the most congested cities in Italy in the top twenty with a population of under 800,000, is evolving at varying speeds even with regard to soft and sharing mobility and infomobility tools. However, we are on the road to reducing emissions to combat climate change and, while Fridays For Future is occupying the European Parliament on the eve of the elections, in order to raise the awareness of representatives on environmental issues, the balance between the need to travel and making more environmentally friendly choices in mode of transport is perhaps less distant.
