Chapter 3 - The 2030 agenda, a challenge for the Veneto region

On 25 September 2015, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, a global action plan for the well-being of people, the protection of the environment and the prosperity of countries. The Agenda aims to achieve 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030, targeting a development model that combines economic progress with social development and care of the environment, in order to ensure a fairer and more prosperous society for the new generations on the planet.
The "Global SDG Index 2018" measures the progress of 156 countries towards sustainable development: the world rankings show the EU ahead of the rest, with Italy in 29th place. The national version of the 2030 Agenda is the National Strategy for Sustainable Development (SNSvS), approved in December 2017, while at regional level the Veneto region started the process of drawing up its own Sustainable Development Strategy in 2018. In terms of the objectives for which comparison with Italy is available, Veneto shows sustainability levels that are better than the national average for 11 goals, while in 2 cases it is in a slightly more critical position.
